Basketball

Basketball, as well as other college sports, has multiple divisions, the most competitive being Division I. Normally, the athletes that play in DI are offered a scholarship for their contribution to the team. DI players are usually recruited and observed since the ninth grade. DII, however, is more flexible. Some players in Division II have been walk-ons, who could then be offered scholarships for their athletic accomplishments.

Baseball

Baseball scholarships are barely full-ride since the coaches tend to divide scholarships as much as they can. This happens because baseball is an equivalency sport, where coaches are given the chance to spread the available scholarship money among players.

Division I: Baseball is the one with the most funding and it is the highest a player can get in college baseball. There are about three hundred DI baseball programs in the United States. There are about eleven full scholarships available per program, however, keep in mind that these may get distributed by the coach.

Division II: This division has even less scholarships than DI, but it still runs by the same requirements for players. One of the biggest differences between DI and DII is that DII is composed of medium-sized universities and colleges.

Division III: These are smaller universities and colleges and athletic scholarships are not awarded to students. However, they are still eligible for financial aid and academic scholarships.

Currently, about 4,500 men have been offered scholarships to play DI basketball. It is also important to highlight that there are about 5,000 women full-ride scholarships, since there is a high demand for female players. There are some restrictions regarding basket\ball scholarships such as men’s teams not being able to give more than 13 scholarships per program. On the other hand, women’s basketball programs have a restriction of 15 full scholarships.

How can I prepare myself for recruitment?

Generally, recruiters will rate your strength, rebound, ball handling, offense, speed, passes, defense, shots, attitude, aggressiveness, and skill. What we suggest is to start working on the ones that you feel you are weaker at.

  • Tennis has conferences which are important because the winner of each conference tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and provides an opportunity for a lower-ranked team to be matched up against a higher-ranked team.

       DI:

  • Division I volleyball schools have big requirements:
  • The average height of a female player is 6 feet.
  • DI volleyball, as well as other sports, require exceptional athletic ability.

If you are a shorter player, however, don’t get discouraged. If your athletic abilities are at a high level, you still have a chance at playing DI.

     DII:

  • In DII we can find the most scholarships. Colleges and universities are actively searching for players and are willing to offer the full ride.
  • DII volleyball player height is 5 feet 10 inches tall on average, rather than 6 feet.

     DIII:

This division has the least requirements.

What are the different divisions and requisites?

NCAA: It is the organization that is in charge of governing, endorsing, and organizing sports tournaments between the different participating universities.

Division I: made up of the largest universities with the largest budget to develop their sports programs.

Division II: Universities tend to be a bit smaller, with fewer students and less budget for their sports programs.

Division III: made up mostly of private universities and small colleges with very little sports budget.

NAIA: Like the NCAA, it is an association that governs and organizes inter-collegiate sports tournaments. These universities are mostly private and have a lower scholarship budget for their athletes.

NCJAA: is the association that governs community college and junior college sports throughout the United States.

Currently, the NJCAA has 24 separate regions in 24 states.

  • Math

The TOEFL is a standardized test to measure the English language ability of non-native speakers who wish to enroll in universities in the United States.
